Workshop on Immunization
Immunization is a cornerstone of public health, preventing the spread of infectious diseases and saving countless lives worldwide. A workshop was conducted on Immunization at SDM College of Ayurveda and Hospital, Hassan from Department of Kaumarabhritya (Pediatrics) and Swasthavritta & yoga (Preventive Social Medicine and Yoga) in collaboration with Department of Health and Family Welfare, Hassan District and World Health Organization on 7th June 2024. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Muralidhar P Pujar, Medical Superintendent, SDMCAH, Hassan. Dr. Harshith, Surveillance Medical officer, WHO, Mangalore Unit, Dr. Shailaja U, Vice Principal and Head, Dept. of Kaumarabhritya and Dr. Kavita M B, Head, Dept. of Swasthavritta were present for the inaugural program. Faculty, Postgraduate scholars and interns attended the workshop.
Dr. Harshith put light on various aspects of immunization through separate sessions on overview of national immunization schedule, MR elimination Road Map 2023, adverse events following Immunization, basic concepts, anaphylaxis identification and management. Mr. Praveen, Cold Chain Manager, Hassan District deliberated on Cold chain and safe injection practices at session sites. A session on acute flaccid paralysis surveillance and response, diphtheria, pertussis and neonatal surveillance and response was also held, where case definitions of above infectious disease followed by their reporting to centers for early elimination and eradication of the disease were highlighted. The participants visited District Mother and Child Hospital, Hassan Institute of Medical Science, where demonstration of administration of different vaccines, proper methods of patient counseling, cold chain management and biomedical waste management was done.
