National Ayurveda Day was celebrated with a series of events from 13th Oct to 17th Oct 2017 to create awareness and sensitivity towards Ayurveda among the masses. A Medical Health camp Food Fest “Shadrasa” and Exhibition from all 15 Departments was conducted on 14th Oct 2017. Presentation competition on the topic “Pain management through Ayurveda” was conducted on 13th Oct 2017. A CME on Pain management “Prashamani” was conducted on 16th Oct 2017and Talents Day of fresher’s was organized on 17th Oct 2017. A CME on Pain management “Prashamani” was conducted on 16th Oct 2017. The chief guest for the program was Dr. Shankar K, District Surgeon, Hassan, Dr. Rama Rao, Former Ayush officer, Gulbarga and the program was presided by Dr. PrasannaNarasimhaRao, Principal, SDMCAH, Hassan. The resource personnel included medicalfraternity from various fields and there were deliberations onvarious aspects of pain management.
Independence Day was celebrated in the Institution campus with patriotism and enthusiasm. The guest for the program was Sri Rohith, Kannada Lecturer, Govt. PU College,Alur. The dignitaries present on the occasion were Dr. Prasanna N Rao, Principal, Sri Nagendra, AO, SDMCAH, Hassan, Dr. Muralidhar P Pujar, Prof, Dept. of Panchakarma, Dr. Shailaja U, Prof. Dept. of Kaumarabhritya, Prof. Panduranga and others. All the staff & students participated in the program with fervor.
A workshop on LPG safety was conducted in the Institute on 15th August 2017. The staff and students availed the benefit of the program. The safety measures, cautious consumption of the LPG, etc. were highlighted. The resource person was Mr. Madhu from Sohan Gas Agency, Hassan.
Department of Kaumarabhritya had organized “World Breast feeding Week” program on 1 st August 2017. Feeding mothers participated in this program. Dr. Shailaja U, Professor, Department of Kaumarabhritya gave awareness talk on “Importance of breast milk and diet- activities for feeding mother”. Video demonstration on feeding techniques and related problems were shown. Dr. Vijayalaxmi Mallannavar, Associate Professor, Department of Kaumarabhritya gave talk on the weaning practices in infants from 6 months of age. All the beneficiaries gave a good response and requested for many such awareness programs for the community.
Honorable Sri P.P Chaudhary, Union Minister of State, Ministry of Law and Justice, Electronics & Information Technology, Govt. of India visited the campus on 8th June 2017. There was an interaction session on “Empowering Youth”. The staff and students had an opportunity to interact and express their thoughts and recommendations with the Minister.Sri Lehar Singh, MLC, Sri Yoga Ramesh, District BJP President and Dr. Prasanna N Rao, Principal, SDMCAH, Hassan were also present for the interactive session.
A workshop on “Abstract writing for scientific presentations” was arranged in the institute on 8th June 2017. The resource person was Dr. Ram Manohar, Director, Centre for advance research, Amrita School of Ayurveda, Kollam and the session was chaired by Brother SankaraChaitanya, Managing Director, Amrita School of Ayurveda, Kollam.
On 19th May 2017 the institute celebrated its 25 years of inception of providing quality Ayurveda Education and Health Care. The inauguration program of the six days CME for Ayurveda nursing staff on “Nursing practices in achieving standard health care” was held in the institute on 1st May 2017. Delegates from different states like Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra & Karnataka are participating in the program. The CME is sponsored by Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and co-ordinated by Rastriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth, New Delhi.
A Continued Medical Education program on Epilepsy was conducted in the college on 31st March 2017. It was conducted in association with BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital, Bengaluru. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Prasanna N Rao, Principal, SDMCA, Hassan. The resource person was Dr. Madhusudhan B. K, Neurologist, Gleneagles Global Hospital, Bengaluru. He spoke on the research updates and the treatment of epilepsy and highlighted on giving awareness about the disease to the masses.
Blood Donation Camp was conducted in the College on 10th Feb. The guests for the program were Sri. K. N. Pundareeka, Asst. Director, Social Welfare Dept. On 25th January the campus was filled with cultural extravaganza with mist of traditional dance and songs. The event was “Alvas Samskrutika Vaibhava where young student artists performed the traditional cultural dance of India. They mesmerized the audience with wonderful show. Jwala 2016- a Cultural Day extravaganza was organised in the college on 20th December. Vibrant performances were done by students on the occasion filled with colour & splendour.
“Shishyopanayana”- Induction ceremony, a unique way to build Guru-shishya relation was held on 27th November in the college campus. The programme was celebrated with a spiritual ambience. A “workshop on scientific writing” was conducted on 3rd November 2016 for teaching faculty to promote and inculcate culture of research publication. The workshop was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the guest speaker, Dr. Sriranjini S Jaideep, Clinical Registrar, M S Ramaiah Indic Centre for Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine, Bengaluru, Dr. Prasanna N Rao, Principal, SDMCA & H, Hassan, Dr. Girish K J, Chief coordinator, Research committee and Dr. Harini A, coordinator, Research Publications. Dr. Prasanna N Rao, in his presidential address stressed the need for quality publication and motivated the faculty for quality publications.
61st Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated with joy and pride in the College premises on 1st November 2016. Staff and students actively participated in the program. The Kannada flag was hoisted and kannada anthem “Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate” was hymned by all.
The first National Ayurveda Day was celebrated in the institute on 28th October. On this eve to create awareness about diabetes a walkathon was organized on 27th Oct. The walkathon was flagged off by Ms. Chaitra V, Deputy Commissioner of Hassan. Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Mrs. K. M. Janaki, ADC, Mr. Honnavalli Satish, President, HDCC Bank, Dr. Venkatesh, DHO, Hassan, Mr. Shivanna, Freedom fighter, Dr. Prasanna N Rao, Principal, SDMCA, Hassan and other eminent staff. The walkathon proceeded through the major areas of the city and culminated at the college premises. On 28thOctober the flag hoisting ceremony of National Ayurveda Day took place in the college campus and the program was inaugurated by lighting the lamp. The guests for the program were Mr. H.S. Dayasheela, SKDRDP, Hassan. Plant samplings of herbs used for the treatment of diabetes were also distributed to the patients during the program. Health camp was organized on this occasion from 7am to 7pm in the hospital for the benefit of health seekers.

Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Ayurveda & Hospital,Hassan in collaboration with Indian Academy of Paediatrics and National Neonatology Forum has conducted hands on training program on neonatal resuscitation and new born care on April 30th and May 1st 2016 for the staff and PG Scholars of Prasuti Tantra (Gynaecology & Obstetrics) and Kaumarabhritya (Paediatrics). Dr.Chandrakala and Dr.Kotturesh Rasthapurmath, Karnataka IAP President, Dr.Bhuvaneshwar and Dr.Rangaswamy were the resource persons.
Hands on training, explanations and demos regarding different scenarios arising during and after delivery where intensive care and resuscitation has to be performed werethe highlights of the program. Implementations of Routine care, observational care and resuscitation in different scenarios have been explained followed by hands on training. The demonstration of care of normal baby (routine care, wrapping the bay), prevention of hypothermia, Kangaroo mother care, breast feeding techniques, prevention of infections, hand sterilization techniques were the other technical aspects emphasized.
